Overview

So… who are the Samaritans? 💚
The Samaritans are a registered charity that’s been supporting people in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide for over 70 years. They’re available 24/7 via phone 📞 or email 📧 — ready to listen, whenever you need.

Why are we raising awareness?
• Samaritans aren’t just here for moments of crisis — they help prevent them too.
• They empower people to cope and be there for others 🤝
• You don’t need to be in crisis to call.
• Some students may prefer speaking to someone outside the university.
• Samaritans are there when campus services are closed or out of hours.

Let’s break the stigma and make talking about mental health part of everyday life 💬💚

By the end of this workshop, students will:

  • Understand what active listening is and why it matters

  • Identify common listening blockers (e.g., phones, jumping to conclusions)

  • Practice 2–3 key active listening techniques

  • Reflect on how listening impacts friendships, teamwork, and support
