The Buckingham Debate Union is a student-led society dedicated to debate, discussion, public speaking, and the promotion of free and respectful exchange of ideas across the University.
We aim to create a welcoming and intellectually engaging space for students from all disciplines, whether they are complete beginners or experienced speakers. The society is designed to help students build confidence, strengthen argumentation skills, improve critical thinking, and gain valuable experience in presenting ideas clearly under pressure.
Debating is not only a useful academic skill, but also an excellent way to develop transferable skills for law, politics, business, medicine, computing, humanities, and many other fields. Through regular debates, training sessions, and events, the Buckingham Debate Union seeks to bring students together in a positive, inclusive, and stimulating environment. Our society also reflects the University of Buckingham’s commitment to open discussion and academic freedom. We believe that debate should be respectful, challenging, and accessible to everyone, and we are committed to encouraging thoughtful conversation on important contemporary issues.
