Law Clinic Project 

The Law Clinic Project in partnership with the Citizens Advice, Aylesbury Vale, has been running since 2015.  Over 40 students have successfully undertaken a wide variety of client appointments.

Once a year, in Term 3, students are invited to attend a Law Clinic Information event led by the Clinic Director and Clinical Legal Education Manager.  Students are encouraged to submit applications to train with the Citizens Advice offering free consumer advice clinic sessions at the University Law School.

  • Eligibility - The project is open to all Full-time, Part-time and Postgraduate law students.
  • Application Process - The application form includes a personal statement, focussing on which area of law most interests the student and identifying transferable skills for pro bono clinic work. Occassionally students may be permitted to join the project, after the deadline, at the discretion of the Clinic Director.

 

  • Selection Process - Student candidates are shortlisted for interview conducted by the Citizens Advice Manager and Clinical Legal Education Manager. Students are slected on merit in both academic work, interview performance and motivation.

 

  • Training - Students accepted onto the programme, commence online training in Term 4.  Interactive workshop training seminars are also undertaken utilising a confidential stule allowing students to experiment with interview techniques.

 

  • Shadow at the Citizens Advice - Students are invited to visit to the Citizens Advice in Buckingham to shadow a volunteer assessor during client appointments.

 

  • Clinic Experience Feedback - As part of the project all students are asked to submit a short account of their clinic experience with an emphasis on what they felt they have gained from the project to assist both the individual student with post graduate applications and also prospective students.
