Autumn Term recap from your Sabbatical Officers

SU President

This term has truly been one to remember; from cool autumn evenings spent dancing, chatting, and welcoming all our new students, to cosy winter days working away in the SU office. It’s certainly a term I’ll never forget.

The Union has achieved so much over these past months. On the student voice front, we’ve been able to take your thoughts and concerns and put them into action, making real progress on important issues like graduation and exams. We were especially proud of the turnout at the Student Town Hall thank you to everyone who came, shared your experiences, and helped shape the community we’re all part of. It was also wonderful visiting our Phase 2 medics across their hospital placements and seeing the impact they’re already making.

Beyond the meetings and office work, we’ve had such a great time together, sports fixtures, game nights, quizzes, the amazing Girls’ and Guys’ Nights, and of course, the Splendid SU parties that had us dancing until late. Our cultural societies have also shone brightly, from the vibrant Holi celebration by the Desi and Punjabi Societies to the unforgettable party hosted by the Afro-Caribbean Society.

As we draw the curtains on 2025, I want to say how incredibly proud I am of our student body. Your achievements in sports, academics, community work, and student engagement have been inspiring. Most of all, your unity and willingness to support one another has been a joy to witness. I hope the coming year brings even more growth, joy, and success.

Here’s to the beautiful memories we’ve made, and to all the exciting things still ahead for the Students’ Union.

Good luck with exams and assessments, and wishing you all a peaceful, restorative Winter Break.

Vice President - Student Voice

As quickly as the leaves turned golden and covered our pathways, the Autumn term has come and nearly gone. This term, we had the pleasure of welcoming new students to campus, and it’s been wonderful watching fresh faces settle in, contribute, and bring new energy to our community.

We enjoyed a vibrant line-up of events from the Freshers activities to the always-popular Halloween party. Alongside the fun, the student voice made a real impact this term. We raised concerns about the engagement and attendance policy introduced by the Medical School and we championed the need to amend the 2026 graduation dates to ensure our international students were not disadvantaged by July ceremonies. Thanks to strong, collective feedback, the dates were successfully reconsidered. Wins like these remind us what we can achieve when we stand together.

We were also involved in launching the first University Central Services Pop-Up, which will continue next term. This initiative helps make key services more accessible and student-focused, and we’re excited to see it grow.  Another highlight was reconnecting with medical students on placement. Our visits to partner hospitals allowed us to listen, support, and maintain direct relationships with students who spend much of their time off campus. We look forward to expanding these visits in the coming year.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our recent SU Town Hall. We created this space so students can engage directly with senior leadership, hear updates on exams and policies, and stay informed about the University’s direction. Your positive, respectful participation made the session a real success.  We have plenty of exciting events and initiatives planned for next year, all focused on enriching your university experience and championing your needs.

Good luck with your upcoming exams, and from all of us at the Students’ Union, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Until next year,
Kamva

Vice President - Communities

What a term it’s been! From dancing shoes to craft glue, quizzes to chill nights in, we’ve packed in the vibes, the laughs, and the memories.

We kicked things off in style with Fresher’s Week, where the energy was sky-high, and the excitement was absolutely contagious. And of course, we wrapped it up with the iconic Fresher’s Ball — outfits on point, dancefloor fully occupied, and definitely some legendary casino games we won’t forget anytime soon.

Our weekly Crafternoon sessions kept everyone’s creative spirits flowing. Whether you came for the crafts or just the vibes (we see you), it became the perfect midweek chill-out zone.

October was literally a non-stop celebration of Black History Month. Every week brought something new:
🎬 A film night where we watched Hidden Figures
🎧 A DJ night that turned into a whole party! Big shout out to ACS for the amazing party!
🎤 An inspiring round-table discussion with Dr. Brian Penduka. Big thanks to our wonderful speaker!
❓ And a quiz night that got way more competitive than expected.

We also hosted a cosy Guys’ Night In and a chilled Girls’ Night In, giving everyone space to connect, relax, and have some much-needed downtime.

And just when exams started looming… Destress Fest swooped in. We had a whole lineup of feel-good activities; Meditation Monday, crafternoon Tuesday, Zumba Wednesday, Movie Thursday and Massage Friday for you to relax.

Here’s to the memories we made, the friends we found, and the good times that kept rolling. Onto the next term! But first, Christmas break. 😄
