Dear BSU member,
I hope you are well; I am writing to you all to give the first BSU update of 2023 which will be issued at the start of each non-med term. My name is Eleanor, and I am the President of the BSU. Our BSU Executive team consists of the Secretary, which is Pepa Ireland, Shay De Silva is the Social Sports Officer and Rukevwe Avworo is the Sports Club Officer.
What the BSU Exec have been working on in the past term
- To provide a brief overview of what we have been working on, if you follow us on Instagram, you may have noticed that we have launched BSU Member of the Month. Sports Club executives select one member from each club who they believe has given the most to their club that month. This is to highlight more individuals' passion and dedication to their sport.
- We have also established a check-in service system for all sports clubs to contact a BSU executive for any assistance or questions they may have, allowing us to be more informed about the needs of sports clubs.
- A feedback form has also been added to the Instagram link tree. You can provide feedback or suggestions to the BSU at any time.
- We have also planned and are looking into further socials and events. The BSU Exec and I believe that we should host more social events so that BSU members can come together more often; information about our first social will be available soon.
- We helped two new clubs get started this term: Badminton on the Crewe Campus and Volleyball on the Buckingham Campus. We have also held a Polo taster session, and this term we hope to hold more taster sessions to see if we can develop these into clubs. If you are interested in starting a sports club please get in contact with our Sports Coordinator, Sarah Ruff.
Club Successes
The BSU Exec would like to recognise notable events from the previous term of the following sports clubs:
Badminton: A tournament that was open to all students was also organised. It was fantastic to see so many BSU members participate from various clubs.
Cheerleading: They participated in two university national competitions last term. They have worked extremely hard to put together a routine and placed fifth overall.
Korfball: They organised a 4v4 tournament to raise money for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without borders) which was of a huge success
We would also like to give a special shoutout to the February and March’s BSU Member of the Month Shelby Koyama from Cheerleading and Mahika Naik from Badminton.
Upcoming Events!
The BSU are hosting an OTM party with the theme to dress in white on Saturday 20th May. As a BSU member the ticket cost is only £3, with non BSU Members paying £5 (£8 on door for everyone). Please save the date!
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Shay, Pepa, Rukky and I are always looking for ways to improve sports here on campus and in Crewe so please let us know!
Kind regards,
Eleanor Stevens, BSU President
