On Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th November two of our students represented the University of Buckingham for the very first time at the BUCS Short Course Swimming Championships held in Sheffield. There were over 1,500 swimmers from 82 institutions in attendance and for them to be a part of this was an amazing achievement.
Atharv and Revan are second year medical students who both played a key part in the university swimming club forming last year. To say they did the club and university proud is an understatement as they competed alongside Commonwealth Games medallists and National record holders.
Atharv was first up on the Saturday in the 50m breastroke heats where he swam an amazing time of 33.83 to win his heat. Overall this time put him 152 out of the 176 swimmers in this event. You can see this swim below from 54:24 in heat 2.
Both swimmers took part in the 50m freestyle where Revan stormed to victory in his heat in 24.88 and Atharv followed in a later heat with 27.2. This put them both 111 and 239 out of 293 swimmers, a very respectable result. View the race below from 27:25 to watch them in heats 6 and 7.
On Sunday, Revan took part in his final event which was the 50m butterfly. Another storming victory in his heat taking the win in a very impressive time of 26.41. This put him 65 out of 216 swimmers - a fantastic result. Tune in from 1:26:40 to see Revan in heat 5.
Sarah Ruff, Sports Coordinator: "Congratulations to both Atharv and Revan for competing at such a high level event. It was great to see University of Buckingham students representing the university in sport and doing us proud."
