Our first out-of-campus social was a great success, allowing our members to experience, what it’s like to race around the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, the fastest circuit on the F1 calendar. At the largest simulator racing centre in the UK, Simply Race in junior F3 cars.
The event featured a 10-minute practice followed by a 30-minute race, using Thrustmaster racing simulators, providing us with the opportunity to experience the characteristics of a formula racing car. Including their superior brakes allowing for significantly smaller stopping distances, which did lead to numerous crashes throughout the event!
What our members thought of the event:
Haider-‘I absolutely loved the event and enjoyed it. It was a very fun activity to do, especially as an alternative to karting. The execs did a great job. Looking forward to more events with you, guys!
Lydia-‘It was great to try out simulator racing with the other society members, I had plenty of fun and am looking forward to more events in the future!’
Buckingham’s F1 President Rufus Cannon-‘Even though F3 cars are not as powerful or as agile as F1 cars, it provided a great opportunity for members to experience what single-seater racing feels like, especially with the steering and the brakes. And I can definitely see us returning here in the future.’
As the year progresses, we will be returning to Simply Race again, working up towards racing Formula 1 cars eventually, in addition to Go-karting later on in the Spring. Also, a reminder that if you would like to take part in any of these activities in the future, they are exclusively for members.
