This Diwali, the OTM Refectory came alive with colour, laughter and music as Desi society hosted our first big event, Dilwale Diwali Le Ayenge, collaborating along with Punjabi Society and the SU. What started as an idea to bring people together for the Festival of Lights turned into a sold-out celebration, with over fifty attendees filling the room with excitement and warmth.
The evening was full of moments that made everyone feel at home. From delicious food by 'Talk N Tikka', including Dahi Vada, Gobi 65, Biryani and Gulab Jamun, to diya painting and rangoli activities, there was something for everyone to enjoy. As the night went on, the lights dimmed, the music turned up, and soon the dance floor was packed.
For many students, especially those away from home, it was a chance to celebrate Diwali surrounded by friends, culture and community. Seeing everyone dressed in their beautiful Indian outfits, sharing food, laughter and stories, truly captured the spirit of the festival – light, togetherness and joy.
Dilwale Diwali Le Ayenge was more than just an event. It was a reminder of how special it is to come together and celebrate where we come from. We would also like to extend our appreciation to Maneeka from SU and Debarpita Bardhan-Correia for their help in getting this event up and running.

Here’s to many more nights like this from Desi Society
