Freshers wrap up - Jan 25!!

The Freshers' events, although held during the frosty winter days from the 8th to the 24th of January, had been a warm and vibrant welcome for the new batch of students. It had been aimed at easing their transition into campus life. These had been organised by the Students Union in collaboration with various student groups and the departments around the university. The events spanned two and a half weeks of fun and excitement, which brought together students, faculty, and staff to create a lively and engaging atmosphere.

Some of these events included Welcome meals, Karaoke nights, DJ nights, lots of bustling parties, Crafternoon sessions and our sports and freshers’ fairs. All these events had been well attended by our freshers and returning students alike, and it had been exciting to see all the students engage with not just the events but with themselves and hope that they had made memories to last them a lifetime.

Kamva, the VP of Voice, said, “The start of freshers is always an exciting time, it marks the start of a new journey for our new students. From seeing the new faces turn into familiar ones, debates over quiz night questions and amazing vocal performances at our karaoke nights. It is fair to say that everyone seems to be acclimatising very well to our Buckingham family [and weather : )]. My highlight has been seeing the sold-out crowd at the Freshers Ball which reemphasised to me the high level of engagement we have been getting from all students and long may that continue!

Maneeka the VP Communities comments, “Freshers 2025 was two incredible weeks dedicated to welcoming our new students. Seeing strangers turning into friends reminded me of my own time here. My highlight was the karaoke night. Everyone was having fun and dancing. People even sang songs from their countries, displaying our diverse cultures. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead—welcome to the family!”

Annabel, the SU President, “Freshers had been a thrilling time; seeing all the new students join in and get a welcoming feel for what their Uni experience would feel and look like. However, the best part was seeing how engaged everyone was in various activities and witnessing all the freshers and returning students meet each other at events and make the effort to enjoy not only the event but their company too. It had been nostalgic and reminded me of when I had first started at Buckingham, aeons ago, and wanted to join in on the fun too.”

Overall, the Freshers' event successfully integrated the newcomers into the campus community, laying a foundation for their academic and personal growth.  To take a look at some more photos which were taken during Freshers please click here.
