In September 2023, the Friends of the University launched their inaugural 'Friends Student Photographer of the Year' competition.
The Friends had been looking for a way to engage both Buckingham and Crewe students and recognised one thing nearly all the students have in common, a smart phone with a built-in camera. The Well-being, Skills and Diversity team encouraged students to be creative. Photography allows students to be very creative, especially as they learn new skills on how to shoot and edit photos.

To further encourage student participation in the scheme, the Friends provided a prize of £75 in Amazon vouchers and an enlarged, framed print of the winning photo.
The scheme was deemed a success, and will return in 2024, hopefully with an increased prize for the winner of £100 in Amazon vouchers.
