Guy's Night In

On the evening of November 22nd, 2023, the OTM refectory was taken over for a night of games and meaningful dialogue as we gathered for our first-ever "Guy's Night In." The atmosphere was relaxed, the pizza was flowing, and the games were on point – but more importantly, the conversations went beyond the surface.

Games and Good Vibes: The night kicked off with a flurry of friendly competitions, from fast-paced table tennis matches to intense FIFA battles. Laughter echoed through the room as we bonded over shared victories and the occasional defeat. The pizza was a hit, serving as the perfect fuel for the lively activities.

Diving into Meaningful Conversations: The evening was not just fun and games, as we asked the lads to think about 3 important questions:

  1. How do you take care of your mental health? Encouraging open and honest reflection and advice about the challenges we face and the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding mental well-being.
  2. What does image mean to you? Reflecting on the impact of societal expectations and the importance of self-acceptance.
  3. What are your most important social connections? Closely related to mental health is the significance of social connections. Friends and family were a recurring theme here. The guys understand the role of friendships and support networks in navigating the ups and downs of university life.

Sam Bailey, Men's Rugby President: "On Wednesday we had our guys night in which was a big success with so many different people turning up to the OTM. I would just like to say a big thanks to the SU team who helped to organise the event in conjunction with the UOB Bears.  A reminder that our Movember campaign is still going and if you would like to donate you can do so here."

"Guy's Night In" proved that creating a space for open dialogue can be just as basic as a game of pool and some pizza. This event was more than a one-time gathering; it marked the beginning of a commitment to ongoing conversations about mental health, body image, and the power of social connections.

A huge shoutout to everyone who attended and contributed to the positive vibes. Stay tuned for more events that aim to bring our UOB community even closer!
