MedTech and AI Conference 2026

Transforming Healthcare Through Artificial Intelligence

Our MedTech Conference, “Transforming Healthcare: The Evolving Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Modern Medicine,” brought together students, faculty members, and healthcare professionals for an inspiring day of innovation, collaboration, and discussion surrounding the future of AI in healthcare.

The day began bright and early with attendee registration, where second-year medical student Omar Khalifa played an instrumental role throughout the event. From assisting with registration and drinks collection to ensuring the smooth flow of the conference, Omar’s support and dedication were invaluable to the success of the day.

At 9:00 AM, attendees were welcomed into the auditorium, and shortly afterwards, Professor Nigel officially opened the conference with his signature humour, warmth, and charm, immediately setting an engaging and welcoming tone for the day ahead.

Following the opening remarks, Sunghyun Ham and I delivered the welcome address, expressing our excitement to see such enthusiasm and curiosity surrounding the rapidly evolving role of artificial intelligence in medicine. It was incredibly encouraging to witness students and professionals alike come together with a shared passion for innovation in healthcare.

The conference’s first keynote sessions featured Dr Shazia Iqbal and Professor HongBo Du, who delivered insightful talks exploring the applications and implications of AI in modern medicine. Their presentations sparked thoughtful discussions and highlighted the growing importance of technology within clinical practice and medical research.

After the opening talks, attendees enjoyed a networking and refreshments break, which provided an excellent opportunity for students, speakers, and faculty members to connect, exchange ideas, and continue conversations sparked during the sessions.

The conference then resumed with further engaging talks from Professor HongBo Du, Dr Chris Jacobs, and Dr Ankit Chedha. Dr Ankit had kindly reached out to collaborate only a week before the event, and we were delighted to welcome him to the conference. As an oncology registrar based in London, Dr Ankit delivered a particularly inspiring talk reflecting on his professional journey, experiences within medicine, and perspectives on innovation in healthcare. We are also very grateful to him for selling his books at 50% off just for the conference!

The afternoon workshops brought a highly interactive and practical dimension to the conference. The first workshop, led by Thisaga, Alex, and Team InterLync, introduced attendees to Fusion 360 and TinkerCAD, offering hands-on experience with 3D printers and an introduction to designing objects for clinical innovation. The workshop was exceptionally well received and showcased the exciting intersection between medicine, engineering, and technology.

This was followed by the second workshop led by fourth-year medical student Saiyed Anwar, titled “Building a Real A&E Triage App.” This session was particularly popular among attendees, providing practical insight into digital healthcare innovation and demonstrating how technology can directly address clinical challenges. In addition to leading the workshop, Saiyed stayed throughout the entire conference and provided invaluable technical support behind the scenes, helping ensure the smooth running of the event from start to finish.

Following the lunch break, students gathered for the highly anticipated poster presentations featuring work from both pre-medical and medical students. The poster session showcased a wide range of innovative ideas and thoughtful research related to AI and medicine. The enthusiasm and creativity displayed by all participants were truly commendable.

Congratulations to Varunikha Anandan Sangeetha, who was awarded first place in the poster competition! In addition to receiving a trophy organised by the executive team, Varunikha was also generously gifted one of Dr Ankit Chedha’s books as part of the prize.

A special thank you must also go to Quennie Delotavo, whose hard work throughout the term played a huge role in promoting the conference and ensuring strong engagement and visibility across the student community. Her dedication behind the scenes contributed greatly to the success and reach of the event.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr Aida, Professor Harin, Dr Shazia, and Dr Andra for joining us from the faculty and supporting the conference throughout the day.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you goes to the entire executive team: Quennie Delotavo, Saiyed Anwar, Karan Raj Nazareth, Sunghyun Ham, Dhruv Dhanda, and everyone involved in organising the conference. Events like these require months of planning, teamwork, adaptability, and commitment, and their efforts were instrumental in bringing this vision to life.

A final thank you goes to every student volunteer, speaker, workshop lead, attendee, and supporter who contributed their time, energy, and enthusiasm throughout the day. The conference served as a powerful reminder of the exciting possibilities that lie ahead at the intersection of medicine and technology, and we hope it will inspire continued innovation and collaboration in the years to come.
