#beproud
Pride month honours the many years of struggle faced by the LGBTQ+ community. From Henry Gerber founding the Society for Human Rights in the 1920s, to the Stonewall riots of June 1969, to the UK’s first Pride march held on the 1 July 1972, to the repealing of the infamous Local Government Act 1978, section 28. The world has come quite a long way. We celebrate where we are, and remember where we were, and look to where we want to be.
We appreciate the courage of our students who dare to live their truths, difficult it as that may be as the struggle still continues. The Students’ Union is especially thankful to Chrissie, JJ, Rani, Bawono, Bia, Rosie, Saff and Bobin for sharing their experiences with us and allowing us tell their stories. We are also grateful to Chrissie, Mari, Brook and the rest of the SU team involved in making this Pride month one to remember.
Pride month may be over but our commitment to being a safe space to come out or talk through anything you may be feeling remains the same. Just because Pride month has come to an end doesn't mean our support has, if you need to speak to someone reach out the Students’ Union (above the OTM, Buckingham) (ICB, Crewe) or the Wellbeing team (Hunter Street, Buckingham) (ICB, Crewe) and if you're interested in leading or getting involved in our future campaigns, get in touch and watch this space.
