Katy - SU President

  • This term I hosted the first Girls Night OUT which was successful as we had 30 womxn attend! I managed to secure safety alarms which any individual can obtain if they feel necessary
  • I have secured an allotment space behind Norton’s Place where I will be starting the communal garden on our Buckingham campus
  • I have helped 16 students with either professional complaints or academic concerns
  • I chaired the Town Hall meeting in Crewe
  • I obtained a quote for hydroelectricity in the river, now awaiting a discussion with the Vice Chancellor
  • Created a connection between The University of Buckingham and Bucks New University

Henry - SU Vice President

This term has been a busy one. The main features were the completion of the Society Handbook which will soon be gracing the website for all to see. Alongside that I attended NUS Lead & Change 2022 (South) and we also had the Sports & Societies Awards Ceremony 2022.

  • The Society Handbook has been a project I have worked on for over a year with its sole purpose being something that fully encompasses how to run a society and the extra needed information to do so. It has been made alongside the experience of not just staff and students at this university but also with the help of those outside of it
  • Lead & Change is the annual Sabbatical training provided by the NUS. Around August is normally when sabbaticals would just be starting, which does make it a little awkward for us. However, it is still a worthwhile experience in getting to hear about and from other SU's, be it the problems they are facing or the successes they have had. It is a great way to share the best practice about overcoming issues or resolving problems
  • Sports & Societies Awards Ceremony 2022 was another success this year. After last year we knew we had to grow the event and so began investigating for a larger venue from as early as February. From then Sarah, Brook and I discussed colour schemes, advertising materials, how to differentiate it from last year and make it feel more special and so much more. I may be known for punishing societies but I am always happiest when I am awarding them for their hard work
  • Next is Freshers and I'm looking forward to meeting new students and putting on activity after activity. It is also a time to say goodbye as not only do I finish my time as a sabbatical but we also say goodbye to so many of our hardworking students as they take the next step
  • I look forward to seeing you all back and ready for the Autumn Term, especially with society AGMs being soon and bringing in the next wave of executives!

Adam - BSU President

  • Over the last term we have hosted the Chancellors Cup, Quiz night, and a different sport every Wednesday for all join
  • Dealt with the AGMs for each sports club
  • We have hosted a training session with the new executives for each sport across both campuses
  • Supported our tennis leader to attend an event hosted by the LTA

Daye - Equity and Inclusion Officer

  • I wrote a piece about micro aggressions, including information about what they are, what they could look like, how to prevent them and who to speak to if a student feels like they have been affected by this
  • I had a meeting with the Pride Society about potential events for the coming term to ensure we are actively making our LGBTQ+ population feel seen
  • I hosted a mocktail making event to create a space for students who don’t drink alcohol to have a fun and sociable activity

Toby - Environmental, Ethical and Community & Commuter Officer

  • This term has been very successful for environmentally focused events, with Battle of the Bins 1 and 2 both running effectively and a third round in the planning stages. Battle of the Bins was designed to be an event that took advantage of the warm summer weather and got students active in an effort to make an impact on the level of waste scattered around the town. Most students view Buckingham as quite a clean environment and while this may be true, there is always waste that isn’t paid attention to as it may be more difficult to spot. I’m very grateful for everyone who’s taken part in these events and am excited to hold the next one at the beginning of next term
  • I’ve also begun an online sustainability training course which will equip me with new knowledge and skills which I will be able to incorporate in future events and campaigns I intend to run. I’ve now got time to dedicate my full time to my role as I will be continuing my studies in January

Karina - Welfare Officer

  • This term flew by so quickly! In the first part of it, I had a few meetings regarding Alcohol Impact, including being part of a Steering Group meeting. It was very enlightening discussing what we need to do in order to receive the Alcohol Impact Accreditation and give ideas on how to make students more aware
  • As always, the Mental Health Charter meetings continued as well, it is always nice to be as much help as possible to everyone involved
  • In the middle of August, I also organised “thank you day’, the idea behind which was to nudge students to express their thankfulness to the people that have been there for them recently - be it a friend, family, a co-worker or a lecturer. It was a very wholesome event!
  • Throughout the term I have also been planning next term’s few events that I am very much looking forward to! Only one term left - where has time gone?

Maia - Crewe Officer

This term I have focussed on gaining student feedback on the areas of the campus they would like improving.  These are listed below and I will provide an update next term on the progress made:

  • Vending machine to be put in the ICB or Seeley as there are only two currently on camous which are both in the Francis Wood Building
  • Students would like more use of the ESS building as currently this is only available on a Tuesday
  • Gym facilities on campus are lacking- students would like more workout equipment and for the gym to be open at weekends and for longer hours
  • Prefer SU events to happen after exams or at least 3 weeks before exams take place
