Summer term recap from your Sabbatical Officers

VP Student Voice

The Summer Term has officially come to an end, and it has been one of the fastest terms yet, thanks to the sheer amount of activity on campus. As your Student Voice Officer, I have been working closely with the different faculties to explore creative and effective ways to capture student feedback that can inform university and faculty-level policies.

Two of my most recent projects have been with the Faculty of Computing, Law and Psychology (FCLP). Together with the Faculty Quality Manager and our faculty representatives, we hosted a workshop on methods for capturing the student voice, the feedback loop within FCLP, and how the faculty makes use of student data to drive improvements. The session was well attended, with academic reps from all three faculties actively contributing.

Currently, I am working with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) on the implementation of a new student engagement policy. While it is still in the early stages of student consultation, this policy has the potential to expand across the whole university in the near future.

Alongside the SU President, I have also been sitting on several exam committees to ensure that resources and delivery for the upcoming exam diet are as effective as possible. While students should not expect major changes to the “new norm,” we are pushing for a smoother and more consistent delivery going forward. Importantly, we also advocated for exam timetables to be released in a timely manner so that students have enough preparation time—these should be published in the coming weeks.

A lot more updates around new policies and exam arrangements will be shared at the next Student Town Hall, so please consider this your official invitation:

๐Ÿงถ Crafternoon
This term’s Crafternoons were bursting with creativity! Students got hands-on with painting, bookmark-making, basket weaving, clay modelling, henna, and tote bag painting, among other crafty delights. Each week was a chance to relax, unwind, and create something unique to take home.

๐ŸŒžSummer Party: Sunshine & Shenanigans
We turned up the heat (literally) with our Summer Party! Think music, dancing, and vibes so good even the British weather behaved for once. It was the perfect break for the term!

๐Ÿ“Election

This term I threw my hat in the ring for the Student Union elections… and I won!  A huge thank you to everyone who supported and voted for me! I will be VP of Voice next year; so, get ready for big ideas and discussions. My glitter and sparkles will not end with Crafternoon; I’ll add them to my notes!

๐Ÿ’…Girls’ Night in

Our Girls’ Night In was all about self-care and sisterhood. We had pizzas, coloring, henna, uno games sessions, and the kind of laughs that make your face hurt and snacks. Always snacks. Basically: the ultimate sleepover vibe, minus the dodgy face masks or sleeping over.

Big thanks to Sarah, Annabel,Blossom and Eleanor(from WSD)!

๐ŸˆGuys’ Night in

Not to be outdone, the lads had their own chill night packed with video games, pizza, and a pop in by WSD (Thank you James!). Proof that sometimes, the best nights out… are nights in.

Shoutout to Kamva for helping with Guys’ Night!

๐ŸŒฑ Network Power Moves

  • Thisaga (Sustainability Network lead) launched the EcoAmica competition- the best idea on how to make our campus more sustainable.

  • Max (LGBTQ+ Network lead) hosted a pride happy hour to celebrate pride month in July with our students returning on Campus.

He also organized a talk with Dr Jack Doyle for Pride month.

  • Megan (Mature Network Lead) organized a picnic on the deck next to the OTM. Everyone, not just our mature students, enjoyed the refreshing snacks.

  • Shanuha (Women Network lead) collabed with the Women Football Club to have a viewing of the semi-final where England won to go to the Finals.

  • Hajarat (Inclusion Network lead) held a sip and paint where students enjoyed a break from their stressful term.
