TAKING STEPS FOR SURVIVORS: OUR PART IN THE 1.6 FUNDRAISING CHALLENGE
The 1.6 Fundraising Challenge was a month-long nationwide event organised by Women’s Aid to combat domestic abuse. The number 1.6 reflects the 1.6 million women experiencing domestic abuse in England and Wales every year. The fundraiser challenge required participants to walk a minimum of 1.6 miles everyday in the month of September while collecting donations.
The Feminist Society chose to partake in this challenge due to our previous involvement with Women’s Aid, where we collected donations for their refuge in Aylesbury. Since then, Rosie Sparkes and I also do volunteer work at this refuge. Women’s Aid is a remarkable charity that has been making a difference to women and children’s lives for decades. Domestic abuse is an issue that affects 1 in 4 women, which makes it an issue close to all of us.
As a team we raised £1,350 and walked a total of 401.1miles for this fundraiser and we could not be prouder!
