The UBMS PRAS Conference 2023 was successfully organised by UBMS PRAS Society in collaboration with Incision UK and PRASSA UK. It was the first plastic surgery conference for the University of Buckingham with an overall sale of 40 tickets. The conference committee consisted of two co-chairs: Fay Fareed and Vian Omar, vice chair: Katherine Wood, general secretary: Alina Bedrekar and media lead : Alba Biba.
There were a variety of talks from influential speakers and surgeons in the field on topics all based on the theme 'The Evolution of Plastic Surgery and where it's heading' . Topics included: 'The History of Plastic Surgery: A journey of reconstruction' , 'Advances in Aesthetic Surgery and newer trends' , 'The future of plastic surgery and robotics' and finally 'Where next for Plastic Surgery?'.
There were also a range of workshops organised for delegates to enjoy and immerse themselves into such as, basic and advanced suturing, tendon repair, microvascular anastamosis and portfolio building, all led by surgeons and facilitators. Breakfast, Lunch and refreshments were provided to all and the event served as a wonderful networking opportunity, especially as there were a wide range of delegates and speakers with different experiences. The conference ended with two oral presentations with prizes being awarded to delegates for the best poster and best oral presentation during the closing ceremony. The winners will each receive a £20 amazon gift voucher, a 1 year free subscription to Teach Me Surgery Question Bank and 3 months of unlimited AMBOSS access.
Overall, there was an attendance of at least 50 people and the feedback received from the event was tremendously good. All of this was made possible because of our kind sponsors : PLASTA UK, Sigma Lance Corporation, Medical defence union, UKLOUPES, Bolton Surgical, The Royal College of Surgeons of England, Medical Protection Society, OSCEazy, AMBOSS and Teach Me Surgery. UBMS PRAS Society has a total of 48 members at the moment and we hope to expand even further. We plan to continue the conference as an annual recurring event and also plan to host more surgical talks and workshops moving forward.
