After multiple cancelled and postponed matches earlier in the season, the UOB Bears finally got the chance to take to the pitch once again to take on a strong Aylesbury side for the second year in a row. After a few last-minute changes to the team sheet, the Bears were well warmed up and eager for the contest with fans from both sides filling up the side line.
The match started off rather scrappy with the Bears conceding a knock on from the kick-off. After a hard few minutes of a solid Bears defence Aylesbury managed to score with a fast play that took them around the wall of defence. The Buckingham boys seemed to be losing their composure after this and although there were a few close calls with Buckingham fighting to get past the oppositions try line, a strong Aylesbury team managed to prevent them from scoring. With the Bears exhausted Aylesbury managed to score 3 more times before the end of the first half.
As the rain started tipping down with the start of the second half, both teams were in for a tough battle. With mistakes being made by both sides and some interesting individual plays, the first 15 minutes of the half seemed like a stalemate. It truly seemed like both teams had reached their limit. Many phases later and after many mistakes made, Aylesbury managed to squeeze in a couple more tries before the final whistle blew.
The game was overall not the best for the Bears in terms of scores but the experience gained and the camaraderie between the boys was definitely worth the beating.
A huge thank you goes out to all the students, past and present, who came to support us and to all the alumni boys who came back to don the red and black, which just shows once again what a tight knit group of guys make up the UOB Bears.
