United for a Cause: The Impact of the Women’s Aid Cup 2026

In recognition of National Women’s Month, the Women’s Aid Cup 2026 was organised to support Aylesbury Women’s Aid, a charity dedicated to helping women, children, and young people affected by domestic abuse through emotional support, advocacy, and safe accommodation. The event, led by the Women’s Football Club alongside the Women’s Health Society and several collaborating societies, brought together sport, community, and fundraising in a meaningful way.

On the night, around 250 attendees, including students, staff, and members of the local community, came together to support the event. Despite the cold, the atmosphere remained lively, with people moving between matches, stalls, and activities throughout the evening.  There was a real sense of togetherness in the air, with people showing up not just for the football but for what the event stood for.

A wide range of societies and contributors helped shape the event, each bringing something unique, from awareness initiatives to food and fundraising. We are also grateful to our sponsors, whose support made the event possible.

At the centre of the evening was the football tournament, played in a round-robin format across multiple pitches. Congratulations to Chicken Tikka Mo Salah for placing 1st, with PB & The Scanners finishing 2nd and The Buzz Ballers in 3rd.

We were honoured to welcome Cllr Fran Davies, Mayor of Buckingham, Cllr Robina Ahmed, Chair of the Equality, Community, Diversity and Inclusion Group, and Vanessa, representative of Aylesbury Women’s Aid, whose presence added real significance to the event.

Through everyone’s efforts, we raised a total of £1,114.10. As shared by the charity, “the total raised can go towards replacing the shower unit in the shower room that has been decommissioned in the refuge due to the floor splitting and leaking.” - Andrea (Director of Operations at AWAID)

A special thank you to Martha Walton (@msm_snaps1) for capturing the event. Photos can be found on her page, as well as across the Women’s Football Club, Women’s Health Society, and collaborating societies’ social media platforms.

Overall, the event exceeded expectations and showed what can be achieved when people come together for a shared cause. Thank you to everyone who contributed and supported the Women’s Aid Cup.
