Representation

Student Town Hall

  • KG: Disappointing that student turnout was low, as we took the time to invite senior leaders

  • SEA: Town Hall clashed with other meetings that he had (Inclusion + accommodation audit)

  • JM: had the accommodation audit and was therefore unable to attend, suggested that low turn out is because majority of people are content with current student life

  • GM: Law society had an event just before that went overtime, but appreciates the effort that we put into the event.

  • It was noted that Wellbeing had an event with the ponies, but this was over before Town Hall began

  • SEA: student’s don’t know what student town hall is about, why they should come and what happens

  • It was suggested that BS, KG, LO + MB look at creating a video that explains what student town hall is, why we need students there

  • KG: suggested officers get involved with social media content, making a change from the sabbs, suggestion of getting officers to talk about their activities at future town hall events

  • JM: suggested a reel afterwards showing the event, SU to look at making a video that highlights the numbers at future events

Would 5pm start time with drinks afterwards in the OTM be the best solution?

Visible presence by Network Leads

  • Some networks have created Instagram accounts, encouragement to be active and start to build community, putting flyers up when there are events

Attendance to SU Events

  • Attendance where possible, communicate with sabbs if unable

Away Days

  • These will be happening in June, officers will be invited to this, council members and investors will be present (David Cole, etc), we will be there to give student perspective on the university strategy

Upcoming Recruitments

SU By-Elections:

  • Elections are currently underway for Sustainability Network Lead + Med Liaison

  • No applicants for the role of LGBTQ+ Network lead, but this is something that the SU will support with events (i.e. pride month)

Thanks to those who have already created Instagram accounts, encouragement to those who have not made one yet to do so.

Plans for next term – Execs

  • Ideally would like to get events in for next term asap, please communicate ideas and rough dates so that these can be put into the SU calendar

SU Executive Team Updates

BB: 11th Feb had UALC, shared feedback with committee, setting up a committee with charlotte, presentation next week from research students – will network with them at this event, mention of lounges for postgrad students in FCLP, FBHSS

GM: lots of rep stuff is repetitive (not happy with grade, ongoing issues, etc), a first class undergrad law student was promised by faculty (dean himself) that they would receive a discount on postgrad but this was not the case, CN had this issue and went straight to Barney who spoke to dean to get this sorted. MB suggested that it would be beneficial to get a survey about this sent to students – how many people know, how many people have been impacted. GM mentioned second degrees / siblings / alumni discount possibility. What is graduates understanding of this / did this impact them?

JM: aiming to get first event in, picnic, heard from MG that this was a good event, not had too many complaints from students. Exam / coursework turnaround time is an ongoing topic. No faculty meetings yet this year

CN: International Women’s Day conference on 11th March, kamva’s quiz night takeover on 9th March, charity football tournament on 13th March, worked on galentines event with ACS + LO in February

MG: having MSN coffee afternoon on 18th March, extended the invite to officers

UOA: Last month we had guys night which was a success, Upcoming plans I’m looking of doing something with the men’s football and basketball team

SEA: hopes to takeover KG’s quiz in week 9, randomised teams to get to know other people, attended inclusion committee meeting, discussed gender pay gap and gender policy. How the SU does LGBTQ history events and black history month etc. Also discussed: how to include trans students with bathrooms etc, making uni life as easy as possible, how would students who transition be supported?

TDK: 13th march is hosting a networking event, vb foyer
